Berrios, Dew

Incumbents Barbara J. Dew and Jose “Joe” Berrios retained their seats on the Victor Valley Union High School District Board of Trustees in last week’s elections.

In Trustee Area 1, Dew defeated Seta Ghazarian with 54.47 percent of the vote. Dew garnered 4,329 votes to Ghazarian’s 3,614.

In Trustee Area 3, Berrios took 64.47 percent of votes cast — 4,818 votes to Mina J. Blazy’s 2,647.

Berrios will begin his second term on the VVUHSD Board when the candidates are sworn in next month. Berrios taught in the district for 37 years before becoming a board member. A 40-plus-year resident of the area, he served as the Victor Valley Teachers Association president for five years.

Dew has lived in the Victor Valley nearly 60 years and is a 1966 Victor Valley High School graduate. She has long been an involved member of her community, including many years of service on the VVUHSD board. She has been an elementary school teacher for more than 30 years in addition to her service with legislative agencies at the county and state levels.

“I would like to extend my congratulations to Trustees Dew and Berrios, and to thank candidates Ghazarian and Blazy for their efforts to get involved and be part of the local educational governance process,” VVUHSD Superintendent Dr. Ron Williams said. “I look forward to working with Mrs. Dew and Mr. Berrios another four years and further strengthening positive working relationships with these two fine educators and community leaders.”
